Summer Activities

• • Chemin des Affortses: continue after Bellevie along the hillside in the woods until the village of La Vernaz (2km). A hike all the way up to Veysonnaz and Nendaz is possible by taking the trail behind the church in La Vernaz and following the Bisse de Salins (an easy sloping trail along an ancient water canal).
    

 

• • Grand Bisse de Vex: Hike along a restored irrigation canal downhill from Veysonnaz telecabin to the Mayens de Sion. Beautiful classic Swiss chalets, ancient trees and views over the valley. 1h30 with little slope, ideal for children and people with reduced mobility.  Option is to start at restaurant des Mayens de Sion, just before Les Collons and walk uphill to Veysonnaz. Also side walk to magical site of ancient grove of Melezes and chapel of “Bon Conseil” in Mayens de Sion.

 

• • Tavelli Tower: Octogonal tower with a strategic view on the Val d’Hérens. Located at the bottom of Vex: Take the road of Courtille from Raiffeisen bank until the end and start short trail to tower site from house below the hairpin turn.

 

• • Riva Bridge or Thermal hot springs of Combioula: leave from the hiking trail near the Tavelli tower, 45 min to the Riva bridge (400meters downhill), or 1h30 to the thermal hot springs, natural rock pools by the Combioula river. Also possible to drive down to river from main road, turn left before first tunnel on road before Euseigne. Short walk from parking and across La Borgne river. Flash Flood warnings.

 

• • Summer Alpages: Take the Veysonnaz cabin, walk to panorama in THYON2000, see the Matterhorn and the swiss/ Italian/ Bernese Alpes. Starting point of numerous hiking trails. Walk up to top of ridge above Etherolla chair or back down to Veysonnaz with good hiking shoes 1h30. www.veysonnaz.ch   

 

• • Ossona Suspended Bridge: Acces by dirt road starting in La Luette on the main road after Euseigne. Park at la Luette or drive closer on road.

 

• • Euseigne Pyramids: spectacular geological formations just before Euseigne on road also known as “Fairy chimney” rock formations.

 

• • Dixence Dam: tallest gravity dam in the world (285meters high wall at an altitude of 2365 m). Walk up or take the cabin to the top of wall. Hike around the reservoir on dirt roads with damp tunnels and on more expert trails starting at top of cabin. Try the new zip line along its 200 meter wall. Visit the interior museum. • • Blue Lake: Between Les Haudères and Arolla at “la Gouille” a short 45mn hike to a picturesque lake with great views and more hiking trails above.

 

• • The Glaciers: Ferpecle is accessible from the parking at the end of the road past La Forclaz ( about 1h). To get to the Mont Collon glacier park in Arolla and walk along the river towards the glacier wall. (1h)

 

• • Sion: the capital of Valais with an old town crowned by 2 castles each on its own hill. “Valère” is a fortified basilica with an archeological museum worth a visit. “Tourbillon” is a massive restored ruin (free access) with great views. steep and short trails require walking shoes. Friday is market day in the old town: Siontourism.ch. numerous music festivals in summer. Also 2 art museums, and nature museum for kids.

 

• • Thermal Bath of Saillon: a favorite family resort with numerous warm pools, lazy river, sauna, hammam, slide. In Saillon (30 mn drive off Highway 9) Also visit the spectacular suspended Farinet Bridge across steep canyon above town. Walk from Saillon thru vineyards or drive up.

 

• • Via Ferratas: The Nax Via Ferrata can be seen from Bellevie. Best for expert who enjoy climbing steep cliffs. Equipment can be rented in Sion.

 

• • “Le Domaine des Iles” near Sion a picturesque lake in large park perfect for a summer picnic and a swim (free access). Nice restaurant des Iles with zip lines at Parc Aventure and  Alaia Bay  the new surf spot in Europe,  only a 20 minutes drive from Bellevie.
    
    

• • Biking: VTT Bike trails for intermediate riders from Bellevie: bike to Heremence and to the Grand Raid course.  An easy favorite is in the valley along the Rhone river from Sion to Sierre 3h return trip.

 

• • Horseback riding: the Ranch des Maragnènes just below Bellevie offers riding classes, trail rides www.ranch.ch   

 

• • Tennis: we can arrange a tennis court for you in summer or winter at “Valere Tennis Club” on beautiful clay courts. 30fr /hour.

Winter

  ALPINE SKI: LES 4 VALLEES THYON, VEYSONNAZ, NENDAZ, VERBIER.

• CLOSEST ACCES: Les MASSES: (1500m alt.) 10km on a safe wide road. Free indoor parking, chair-lift of Les Masses with ski rental shop and good restaurants (Le bois sauvage nearby).
• La PISTE DE L’OURS: (1470m alt.) Telecabin to THYON2000.

The Printze section of the 4 Valleys, does not include Verbier (only a small supplement for the Verbier section and the spectacular Mont Fort at 3330m alt. for experts), total of 400km of ski slopes.  www.4vallees.ch
